morning stretch

morning sun
tilts head
toward curtained window

i cold shoulder it-

just five more minutes
before i roll from cosy pit
greet the day and stretch out older
bones slowly and mindfully
reminding me in no uncertain terms
that actions creak louder than words

I’ve meant to mention before I love the pic of you as a child! This poem perfectly puts the image to awakening….I stay in bed as long as possible, probably because I only went to sleep (finally) at dawn.

I like the image of cold shouldering the dawn–but now that autumn is upon us it is still dark at 7am-ish, so often I rise or resist still wrapped in darkness.

Isn’t that the truth? An least for me, I no longer “bound” out of bed these days….it’s that tentative rolling on my side, putting the legs over the edge of the bed, standing up slowly, and creaking a bit as the first steps come. It’s okay….grateful for every day!
