that view
reflected in those pools of eyes
was of worlds beyond my ken
but places i knew i must travel to
she just smiled that smile
unawares of the way
my world’s axis tilted
and as i fell headlong
she murmured
something timeless
that view
reflected in those pools of eyes
was of worlds beyond my ken
but places i knew i must travel to
she just smiled that smile
unawares of the way
my world’s axis tilted
and as i fell headlong
she murmured
something timeless

Love the “ken” and murmur and “axis” of this, Paul.
Thank You De. Great prompt.
When falling we are helpless….
love the timeless murmur..
Helpless indeed. Thanks Bjorn.
At the end of this I am drawn back to those places the poet must travel to – this poem has a tremendous sense of completeness.
Such things call to the poet right and through the writing we might seek understanding of our own mortality, our own incompleteness, our own imperfection in the face of the Great Mystery.
The lines,
“…those pools of eyes
was of worlds beyond my ken
but places i knew i must travel to…”
They make me think of C.S. Lewis’ ‘Magician’s Nephew’ exploring new worlds by diving into infinite pools. How special when a pair of eyes can evoke such a calling.
How lovely to throw up a memory of C.S.Lewis.I’m not familiar with that poem so will go look it up. Special yes and terrifying too.
It is a book in the Chronicles of Narnia, the one explaining the origins of Narnia.
Is she a woman? or is she something else? So long as you keep moving onwards.
She is every-woman. She is the muse. She is the divine feminine. She is the siren, the maiden, the Crone. She is Kali. I could go on 😉
I like your relationship with Woman. You show proper respect to the feminine…
She has been a powerful teacher in my life.
This a little gem with two great closing lines
Thank You.
I was thinking it was a headlong fall into love … and then I read the title again. Now I’m wondering …….
It is and it isn’t. It’s as much about letting go as anything. In a way I think I was writing about the loss of control when the divine comes to play in our lives. The sense that the only way forward is to surrender. It has been a recurring theme in some of my work.
..my world’s axis tilted. Loving your description here!
Thank You Liliian. I thought about ‘rug out from under my feet’ but tilt somehow seemed more descriptive.
enraptured by this piece … now I want to know what she said
It was a murmur 😉
Your description of the love descending and the senses being affected is so agile!
Thank You.
This is falling without a parachute;
Oh yes. It is.
This almost made me cry.
Only almost? 🙂
This is haunting and eloquently written. Looking into eyes that reveal so much more…I like it. Just a thought- as long as the fair maiden isn’t Medusa! 😂
“that view
reflected in those pools of eyes…my world’s axis tilted” That is some vision
When the divine intervenes it is always in a vision right?
“and as i fell headlong she murmured something timeless”… oh gosh this is sigh worthy!!💖
Sigh away Sanaa.
I loved the way your axis tilted and you fell headlong into her spell…
Dwight
Thanks Dwight.
Bewitching, Paul! What did she say?????
I think there are many answers to that question.
“She”, is indeed mysterious. Leaves us all wondering why the pools in her eyes and the axis turning. What ever did she say?
Whatever you want her to say Walt 😉
she murmured
something timeless
I cannot help, but wondered what it was she murmured
Perhaps your wondering will bring an answer?
Timeless traveling… the narrator is a goner…
Indeed the narrator is.
ken. axis. murmur. sigh. this is timeless.
Thank You. Timeless was what I was looking for.
Yes. You did just that. 😉
I love the way you took that quote from Bukowski and drummed your own tattoo on it, Paul, especially:
‘that view
…
was of worlds beyond my ken
but places i knew i must travel to’
and
‘my world’s axis tilted’.
It makes a great love poem for valentine’s Day.
Bukowski’s quote is a permanent fixture on my homepage but I agree, it does resonate well with this poem.I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day…strange co-incidence!
Ahhh, just what the doctor ordered..”timeless murmers” to me implies finding a soulmate.
I wonder what she murmured that was timeless or maybe it went into timelessness after the fall.
Brilliant conclusion. Made me blink with surprise. Nice.
Just wonderful!
Alluring and haunting, Paul!
Beautiful. What a moment!
