can you gather up
the blessings of your life
lived until today and
can you see that not all
have come as good
but often arrive as visitors
you did not wish for
nor welcomed
into your home
know that these
bless much deeper

This is a blog about my life. It's about much more than living with cancer. It's about reading books, cold water swimming, mothering, eating. All that stuff that people who don't have cancer do. If you're looking for my poems you need to go to fmmewritespoems.wordpress.com

Wonderful…….those unexpected visitors are often times a much deeper blessing. Beautiful!
You cannot plan for bliss… so much better to let yourself be surprised.
I love surprises and my husband can’t stand it if things don’t go to plan. But he is so good at planning surprises and keeping them secret – reminds me of Jack Sprat and his wife 🙂
My husband literally just reminded me of this lesson, this blessing, yesterday. I find it difficult to deal with some of his family, as does he, but they are the ones whose challenging love sanctifies us. Thank you, Paul.
The unexpected that makes us softer, stronger, better versions of ourselves. The ‘visitors’ of our lives that challenge us. I like your take on this prompt, Paul.
Nice perspective on the deeper blessing.
This is a blessing indeed, and this is a very moving piece and reminds me that we should be glad for all that we have.
I don’t think I’m ready to look back and start counting blessings.
Things do twist and turn with time.
Such wise words, Paul! Indeed some blessing come in disguise. Thanks for the reminder.
Wonderful! I especially love these lines:
“know that these
bless much deeper.”
wise words
Those unexpected visitors can be a blessing, I agree ~
This is powerful.
Provocative questions, as the truth often comes in guises unwelcomed! 🙂
True words!

Some obnoxious elements do cause bother sometimes. A natural phenomenom, perhaps!

I like it! And it reminded me of Rumi’s The House Guest (I think that’s the title)
A thought provoking piece. Thanks for sharing.
This is so true, at my job I have a lot of “challenging” customers but over the years I have learned to be more understanding and patient. Good lessons I needed.
Very nice Paul, Reminds me of Garth Brook’s song…”I thank God for unanswered prayer”

This makes you realise that it’s unwise to pre-judge a person. place or thing. Thoughtful quadrille.
Your words are true.
Love the reminder that every experience is a blessing, even when they didn’t come as good.
Exactly. Well done, Paul.
such a wise reminder to accept and learn from those un-welcomed visitors
I like the way this spills

Beautifully said Paul, those unexpected visitors can bring many blessings :o)
Oh, those blessings in disguise. In hindsight, they are often the best.
“can you see that not all / have come as good / but often arrive as visitors / you did not wish for…” Visitors in the forms of setbacks, dread trials, horrible tribulations. Dead ends that become the pathway to something other. Taking a deep breath of pain to really breathe.
A great idea to gather up our blessings. Some truly are hard to recognize at first.
