sprung soul

This evening I am host at the Poets Pub. Why not drop by and offer up a poem of your own and read our hugely talented community of writers.

the soul of spring

rose up from the Earth today

filling the bluest of skies

wrapping it’s tender arms

about Winter’s icy heart

to melt it’s stubborn core

a lament trickled from the fells

tinkling it’s song  in the burns

an echo of birdsong in response

sap took a peek above ground

sheep sniffed a new smell in the air

all was well in the world today

  1. What a pastoral scene, every shade of green here with the earth’s sprung soul. No matter what humans do to harm her, or help her, she is always faithful with the signs of renewed hope and beauty.

  2. I love the ambiguity of the title, Paul – a soul that’s been released or on that bounces on springs!
I also like the picture in my mind of spring
    ‘filling the bluest of skies
    wrapping it’s tender arms
    about Winter’s icy heart
    to melt its stubborn core’.
I could hear the tinkling song in the burns, too.

  3. I love that smell of new air, that spring day fragrance Paul ~ Looking forward to finally embracing spring here in my part of the world~

  4. A sweet relief at last. A tender image of spring wrapping arms around stubborn winter. A wonderful act of mercy. I would have given winter a slap for all the inconvenience!

  6. I love the idea of spring as a soul, a relentless force of nature imposing its will upon winter’s icy grip… love the pacing of this poem as well.

  7. A nice spring poem, Paul, to help get us in the mood. Nature was ready though there was a little remorse from here and there.
“a lament trickled from the fells”
(as a small waterfall up on the hill)
    ..

  8. ‘a lament trickled from the fells tinkling it’s song in the burns an echo of birdsong in response’… this is so powerful!
